The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Gavi Vaccine Alliance donated equipment worth $3.4 million to the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan.
The donated equipment includes 3,000 tablets and 221 remote temperature monitoring systems, which are expected to help the Ministry of Health track vaccination coverage and monitor vaccine supply chains.
While, UNICEF and Gavi provided waste management equipment, as well as annual consumables, to 28 medical institutions in Andijan, Namangan, Jizzakh, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya regions, as well as the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care in Tashkent.
“Digitalization of Uzbekistan’s immunization program, combined with improved waste management practices, will help close gaps in vaccination coverage and improve the quality of data and reporting. This will allow the Department of Health to make optimal decisions about vaccine distribution and ensure that all children, regardless of location or socioeconomic status, have access to essential vaccines and safe health care services,” the statement said.
“We are pleased to note that more than 8,000 immunization workers will be able to access vaccination records in a timely manner and identify the target population,” said Gavi Uzbekistan Senior Country Portfolio Manager Ian Castillos Franca.
