The cause of poisoning of children in Namangan was the high dose of iodine, as announced the Minister of Health Amrillo Inoyatov during a meeting of the Legislative Chamber.
At the meeting of the Legislative Chamber, the Minister of Health Amrillo Inoyatov presented a report “on the state of affairs and prospects of providing primary health care to the public.” In his report, the minister reported on the work done in the field of public health, including the incident with the poisoning of children in Namangan, as well as Doc-1 Max.
“Take the recent case with Antistrumin, the ministry 100% admits that this was an overdose. All responsible personnel related to this situation are accountable to the law.
While, I personally, as a minister, undertake to prevent such cases. We started a systematic approach because so many shortcomings and problems have accumulated,” said Amrillo Inoyatov.
Background
On September 20, scheme was launched in Uzbekistan to provide children with iodine under the Yorqin Millat program. It was assumed that iodine would be provided free of charge to all children aged 3 to 15 years through the system of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education.
On September 21, it was reported that some kindergarten children in Chust district of Namangan province experienced symptoms of fever, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Following complaints, 5 children were taken to the hospital. A total of 71 children were then reported to have health complaints and were rushed to hospital.
Later it became known that 450 children fell ill in Namangan. This was followed by the cessation of iodine consumption distributed in schools and kindergartens, as well as the initiation of a criminal case under Violation of sanitary legislation or rules for combating epidemics.
