New Tashkent district is expected to be set up as the Tashkent city’s 13th district. The relevant draft resolution of the Legislative Chamber has been posted for public input until November 25.

A total of 19,720.9 hectares of land in Yuqorichirchiq (17.3 thousand hectares) and Urtachirchik (2,406 hectares) districts of Tashkent province were selected for the New Tashkent project.q

Lands are transferred without changing their current land fund categories.

In March, Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid a capsule marking the launch of the New Tashkent project the Chirchik and Karasu rivers near the capital. The new city is expected to accommodate 1 million people. The buildings of administrative bodies will be located here, including the presidential administration, government, ministries, as well as universities and other facilities.

In September, the head of state approved the combined project of Tashkent and New Tashkent, developed by the British Cross Works company. “Yes, we call it New Tashkent, but tomorrow it will also upgrade the old Tashkent. They must become one blood, one artery,” said the head of the construction management company, Davronjon Adilov.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that it was vital to start the New Tashkent project, otherwise in five years it will be “impossible to live in Tashkent city.”
