Supplies of Russian gas through the Central Asia – Center gas pipeline system in reverse mode are set to be increased from November 2025, the CEO of Gazprom Alexey Miller told Izvestia.
He added that the largest strategic project in the gas sector between Russia and Kazakhstan has already been launched, and the first stage has been completed. Miller did not specify how much gas supplies would be increased.
In October, supplies of Russian gas to Uzbekistan began via the Central Asia – Center gas pipeline. The current contract provides for the supply of 9 million cubic meters per day. If necessary, Kazakhstan can also receive Russian gas through the pipeline.
“This is actually the second birthday of the Central Asia – Center gas pipeline system.” Gas began to flow via Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan. And at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, three strategic memorandums were signed - with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan - on the expansion of the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline system, in particular by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan in order to increase the volume of Russian gas supplies to these countries, and may also be in transit to other countries in this region. Even more ambitious goals have been set for the volume of Russian gas through this gas transport system in reverse mode. The timing of the second stage of reconstruction of the Central Asia - Center gas pipelines is strict: delivery must begin no later than November 1, 2025,” Miller said.
On October 7, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, together with the leaders of Kazakhstan and Russia Vladimir Putin and Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, launched the process of transporting Russian gas through the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline.
Reportedly, Uzbekistan signed a two-year contract with Russia for the supply of 2.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
