Government of Uzbekistan and the Russian Gazprom signed a strategic memorandum on cooperation in the energy sector, the Ministry of Energy said.
According to the memorandum, the parties vow to develop cooperation in the field of gas supply and transportation, as well as in the field of geological exploration and production of oil & gas.
The memorandum was signed on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum. The Minister of Energy, Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov, and the Chairman of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, also discussed the supply of Russian gas to Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan, which began in October.
They stressed that “a specially designated route of the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline system is of great importance for a stable energy supply to consumers in Uzbekistan, which is especially important in the autumn-winter period”.
