More than 10.5 thousand citizens of Uzbekistan live in Israel, Deputy Foreign Minister Bahromjon Aloev said at a meeting of the Senate Committee Monday.

According to him, most of them are natives of Samarkand province, more than 95% of Uzbeks are employed in care for elderly jobs in Israel.

70 students studying in Israel have been evacuated to Uzbekistan since the beginning of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Six students from Samarkand State University refused to return. “We are now talking with these students. If possible, we will also return them to Uzbekistan,” the deputy foreign minister told the UzReport channel.

The deputy minister also noted that the Foreign Ministry returned the families of embassy employees in Israel to Uzbekistan. “There are now five employees, including the ambassador, who continue to work at the embassy alone,” he said.

Aloev added that the ministry “does not have accurate information on the number of Uzbeks living in Palestine.” “But based on old data, I can say that there may be some women who got married,” he stressed.
