Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov, who previously served as Minister of higher education, science and innovation, was appointed Minister of agriculture, replacing Aziz Voitov.

This was announced at the government meeting in Karshi, Kashkadarya province chaired by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, said his spokesman Sherzod Asadov.

Ibrohim Abdurakhmonov, 48, graduated from Tashkent State University and Texas A&M University (USA).

He began his career in 1997 as a junior researcher, graduate student at the Institute of Genetics and Experimental Plant Biology, in 2002-2012 - researcher, senior researcher, project manager of the laboratory of the Center for Genomic Technologies of the Institute of Genetics and Experimental Plant Biology of the Academy of Sciences. From 2012 to 2017 he worked as director of the Center for Genomics and Bioinformatics of the Academy of Sciences, and then, from 2017, served as vice-president of the Academy of Sciences.

In November 2017, he became the Minister of innovative development, and in December 2022 - the Minister of higher education, science and innovation.
