The court found Sh. Sh. guilty of Rape of a person under 14 years of age charge, which is punishable by imprisonment from 15 to 20 years). He was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
The spokesman to the Supreme Court noted that the parties could file an appeal or protest against the ruling.
The girl’s family living in the United States spent a lot of effort to bring the case to court and faced many obstacles and even threats.
The girl’s parents told the anti-violence project Nemolchil.uz: “The criminal case was closed, they said that the statute of limitations had passed and there was no evidence. The case was transferred to the Kibray District Prosecutor's Office, to the Military Prosecutor's Office, to the Republican Prosecutor's Office, and there was no result. There were appeals to both senators and the children's ombudsman. Everything is in vain."
After Nemolchi.uz published about the crime in April, online news publications wrote about it. Only after this the criminal case was reopened. On July 29, by ruling of the criminal court of the city of Nurafshan, the man was taken into custody.
