The Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, commented on the launch of gas supplies to Uzbekistan from Russia via Kazakhstan.

“Of course, this is a historical date... Because until now, from the place where we are now, gas has been supplied to Russia. For the first time in such a record-breaking short period of time, a gas measuring station [Beineu station in Karakalpakstan] was built and commissioned from scratch. And from today, we began to receive gas from Russia,” he told the Uzbekistan 24.

On October 7, the presidents of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia launched the supply of Russian gas to Uzbekistan. Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the launch of this gas transport corridor was of strategic importance. “Firstly, this is an important factor in the energy security of our country and the entire region, reliable and guaranteed supplies of gas. Secondly, additional volumes of gas for the uninterrupted supply of carbon to economic sectors and the population,” he said.

Supplies of Russian gas within the framework of a long-term partnership will help cover part of the gas deficit in the autumn-winter period, taking into account the growth of the economy, population and demand for energy resources in Uzbekistan, the Minister of Energy noted.

“As part of the official visit of our president [to Russia], we and Gazprom began negotiations on medium- and long-term contracts for gas supplies,” the minister added.

In June, the government of Uzbekistan and Gazprom signed a supply agreement of Russian gas, as well as a roadmap for preparing the gas transportation system for receiving and transporting. The Ministry of Energy later announced that the agreement was concluded for two years, the volume of supplies will be 9 million cubic meters per day, the annual volume will be almost 2.8 billion cubic meters.
