According to the Prosecutor General's Office, a criminal case has been launched into the poisoning of children in the Namangan province under Violation of sanitary legislation or rules for combating epidemics of the Criminal Code, with investigation underway.

Earlier on Saturday, 450 children were infected in Namangan, of which 143 recovered. There is still no official version about the cause of the poisoning. One of the main versions is the poisoning with iodine which is being provided to children as part of the counter-iodine deficiency scheme

Corruption is rampant in Uzbekistan, with government officials who could allow anything for a sufficient kickback payment.

Last year in December, officially over 60 children (with no real number disclosed) were poisoned with Doc Max syrop, which did not undergo any clinical tests before being allowed for sale in Uzbekistan.
