Mass poisoning of children occurred in Chust district of Namangan province. Users of social networks were the first to report this. Parents reported that their children were given iodine (as of this week, Uzbekistan launched a weekly program for iodization of children).

The Telegram channel Namanganliklar.uz published a statement from the provincial health department, which states that on September 21, from 16:00, 71 children were admitted to the district medical unit. They experienced symptoms such as fever, some with abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting.

The department quickly created a working group and began an investigation. Nine children, whose condition was satisfactory, were sent home. The remaining children are now under observation. There are no resuscitation cases.

The suspected cause of the illness was not disclosed. The department's statement says that the version of poisoning with an iodine preparation is being verified. The children were given antistrumin and iodomarin.
