Uchtepa district criminal court sentenced the Matiz driver who hit and killed a 12-year-old schoolgirl in Tashkent in May. The driver hit a girl driving at 70 km/h in a section where the speed limit was 30 km/h. The defendant said that his son felt bad, and while driving through the Vatan intersection, he decided to increase his speed.
“I got distracted and hit the girl. I immediately took her to the hospital. She was given first aid, but an hour later they reported that the girl had died,” the driver said.
It was found that the car did not belong to the driver; he was driving his friend’s car without PoA.
The court found the driver guilty of committing a crime under Violation of traffic safety rules or operation of vehicles of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan and sentenced him to 5 years in prison with deprivation of the right to drive for 3 years.
As reported earlier, 4,772 road accidents were recorded in Uzbekistan over the seven months of 2023. 1,115 people died and 4,564 were injured. A comparison of the number of road accidents and their victims for the first half of this and last year shows an increase of 12% and 11.3%, respectively.
Earlier, former mayor of Urganch city, Shukhrat Abdullayev, who was found guilty in a massive embezzlement case, was released from prison on parole after 2 months of prison. While, a teacher in Tashkent city was sentenced to 5 years in prison for a 50 USD bribe is still in prison. Also, in April a man in Tashkent who harassed a 17-year old schoolgirl (kissed her on a cheek) was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Earlier the president Mirziyoyev signed a pardon decree in relation to 286 people.
In the case of the Uzbek Criminal Code, the code seems to be in very serious condition, with those who interpret it even in worse one.
