On August 22, President Shavkat Mirziyoyeva, his wife Ziroathon Mirziyoyeva, as well as Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening ceremony of a secondary school named after Mirzo Ulugbek, built in Fuzuli, the press service of the leader of Azerbaijan said.

The press service of the Uzbek president added that Shavkat Mirziyoyev had voiced the country's readiness to contribute to the restoration of monuments, cultural and educational facilities in Karabakh at the informal summit of the Turkic Council on March 31, 2021.

The school is designed for 960 students. Construction work began last year. The building is located on 3 hectares and consists of two floors and a basement. The school has 40 classrooms, 6 laboratories, 2 computer labs, 5 functional classrooms, an assembly hall for 500 seats, a sports hall, a canteen for 320 seats, and a library.

The school courtyard hosts a football pitch, recreation and event zone, running tracks, meeting rooms, a checkpoint, a boiler room, water tanks, and a transformer substation.

A day earlier, during a briefing for the media, Ilham Aliyev noted that this had been the first gift of a foreign state "for the restoration of Karabakh, and we highly value this gesture of brotherhood, solidarity and support."

“Not to mention that this school is actually, I would say, a palace of education. In May, visiting Fuzuli, I got acquainted with the construction and saw with my own eyes the scale of the fraternal gift that Uzbekistan provided us. The school is named after the great son of the Uzbek people Mirzo Ulugbek, and I am sure that it will not only be a center of education, but also another center of our friendship and brotherhood,” the President of Azerbaijan said.

At a meeting with residents who moved to new homes in Fuzuli, Shavkat Mirziyoyev called the new school "a monument to the future of our sincere friendship."

Trend news publication reported that the school was built at the expense of the budget of Uzbekistan. This is a new type of school, known in Uzbekistan as the “presidential school”. Enter Engineering participated in the construction.
