President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in his inaugural speech today, pointed to the need to develop the Uzbek economy without harming the environment.

Protecting the environment, preventing water shortages will continue to be a priority goal for the government, he said.

“We are, without a doubt, supporters of an environmental balance, clean air, clean water, and a blooming nature. This matter is more relevant and important to us than others. After all, we are a nation that is directly experiencing the largest environmental catastrophe in the world - the Aral Sea tragedy,” said the head of state.

For this reason, major programs are being implemented in the country "aimed at preserving and strengthening the invaluable ecosystem," including the nationwide Yashil Makon project, the president said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev assured that this work would be continued even more intensively. In the projects of new industrial enterprises under construction, strict control will be established on this issue, and all necessary measures will be taken to improve the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region, he noted.

“We should not remain a country that exists only through agriculture,” the president added. “We must become a country with a highly developed industrial industry without harming the environment.”

Many countries do not have the industrial potential that Uzbekistan has today, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

“We have adopted large-scale programs to further develop our unique potential, turn our country into a powerful industrial space, a modern country that produces high-tech, innovative, high-quality products that are competitive in the world market, and we will definitely implement them. We need to be not only a country of skilled cotton growers and gardeners, but also a country of highly qualified IT specialists, engineers and power engineers, miners and metallurgists, physicists and chemists,” he stressed.

Although Uzbekistan has many subsoil and surface resources, “our greatest strength, our priceless wealth is our multinational people living as one friendly family,” he added.
