MPs of the Legislative Chamber at a meeting on Tuesday passed amendments to the State Flag Law, the press service of the Legislative Chamber said.
The amendments, softening the requirements for the use of the national flag, was published for public input from June 1 to 16. Reported at the meeting that more than 1,500 comments and proposals had been received during the discussion.
Now the flag of Uzbekistan is allowed to be used only on the buildings of government bodies and diplomatic missions, in the offices of the president and other senior officials, in military units, at border checkpoints, at sports arenas and during holidays and celebrations, as well as on the main streets on holidays .
It is forbidden to include elements of the flag in the details of documents or advertisements of non-governmental organizations. Symbols of non-governmental non-profit organizations cannot be similar to the flag. Symbols representing the image of the flag also cannot be used for commercial purposes to promote goods, works or services. Due to the fact that the use of the flag by individuals and legal entities is not spelled out in detail in the legislation, the listed actions are considered a violation of the law and entail a fine.
The amendments proposed to allow the use of the national flag at sports, cultural and other public events, family holidays, celebrations of anniversaries and in other cases, ensuring the necessary respect for it.
It will be possible - with due respect - to use the flag and the designation, which is the image of the flag, in public places, on buildings, in places of residence and work, in the territories adjacent to them, in the interior of vehicles, as well as applying the image of the flag on outerwear for decorative purposes.
Along with this, the future law will specify the circumstances under which it is unacceptable to disrespect the state flag.
During the discussion, the MPs underscored that the adoption of the amendments would expand the opportunity to see the flag of Uzbekistan not only on holidays, but also in everyday life and make it a symbol of pride.
