On Monday, June 19, lightning struck two people in Pakhtaabad district of Andijan province, Khayot Shamsutdinov, the spokesman to Prosecutor General's Office said.
The teen boy, 17, died in the hospital, despite the efforts of doctors. The teen girl, 15, is in the hospital, her condition is assessed as moderate.
As the girl's mother, Nargiza Usmonova, 47, who was at that moment next to young people, said that the incident occurred at 8 AM.
“We went to spud cotton in the field on the territory of the farm in Soybuyi neighbourhood in Madaniyat village. While we were walking to the field, the weather was fine. But during the hilling of cotton, the weather deteriorated, the wind rose and lightning flashed. As we were about to go home, something like a flame fell from the sky in front of us. I had heard of such cases before, but had never seen them. Seeing this, I got scared and started calling for help. A waterman worked nearby us. He and many other people came running to help. We took my daughter and the boy to the provincial hospital in a farm car,” the woman said.
“We knew the guy who died, we helped each other in the field. I called him to help with the cotton. He died in the hospital,” said Nargiza Usmonova.
The injured girl was transferred from the district hospital to the Andijan branch of the Republican Scientific Center for Emergency Medical Care. Her back is slightly burned and she is in a state of shock. “She received burns to her head, body, back and legs of varying degrees,” the Andijan provincial health department said.
