Joint communique was signed in New York on June 15 on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Trinidad and Tobago, Dunyo reported.
This is the 144th country with which Uzbekistan has established diplomatic relations.
On behalf of the governments of the two countries, the document was signed by the Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the UN, Ambassador Bakhtiyor Ibragimov and the Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago to the UN Dennis Francis.
“I am glad that the day has come when Trinidad and Tobago and Uzbekistan have officially announced to the world and the international community their decision to establish diplomatic relations,” said Dennis Francis after signing the communiqué. “We in Trinidad and Tobago see this as the beginning of a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Uzbekistan, which is an important member of the Central Asian region.”
Trinidad and Tobago is a country on the northeast coast of South America and is a member of the British Commonwealth and the Organization of American States.
The parties confirmed their interest in strengthening joint cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including the UN and its agencies. An agreement was reached to maintain bilateral contacts to search for mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.
“The signing of the document was an important step to enhance the interaction of Uzbekistan with the countries of the Caribbean,” the message says.
Earlier, on June 1, Permanent Representative Dennis Francis was elected Chairman of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
Earlier in April Uzbekistan also established diplomatic relations with Sierra Leone.
