On June 12, eco-blogger O‘rikguli (“Apricot Flower”) held another campaign in Tashkent calling to save water, stop excessive watering of lawns and pouring water on asphalt.
The campaign was a series of photographs in the form of “single pickets”, where blogger Mutabar Khushvaktova holds posters with the inscriptions: “Repair sprinklers!”, “Overly sprinkling is wrong, tree roots rot, a lot of water is wasted!”, “Save water! Don't water the asphalt! and others.
This is not her first environmental campaign. In early May, she published a selection of videos about how the capital's streets and sidewalks are filled with water from irrigation sprinklers.
In April, she staged a picket with posters on trees, asking people not to interfere with their growth (see our material on this in Uzbek).
“I have been raising this topic for two years now. Irrigation sprinklers are used incorrectly. They are in need of repair. I think the whole system needs to be updated. My goal was to draw attention to these problems. Even if it is not drinking water, a lot of it is consumed. Wasting this water is also wrong,” she said.
Mutabar Khushvaktova intends to continue raising this topic until a solution is found. “I plan to post a few more videos. Yesterday I spoke with the Youth Parliament. They promised to help us. Let's see, I have hopes for them,” she added.
The blogger noted that recently many residents have expressed interest in joining her project.
"You can see it in the fact that my videos are getting popular. People have seen this problem themselves. Many of the videos that I publish are sent by my subscribers,” she said.
