President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as part of his official visit to Italy, visited the office of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and met with its Director General Qu Dongyu, the presidential press service said.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the ways to expand cooperation between Uzbekistan and FAO, primarily in the areas of modernizing the agricultural complex and ensuring food security.
Over the past few years, FAO's portfolio of projects in Uzbekistan has tripled. Today it covers such areas as land and water use, agro-industrial complex, forestry, ecology, animal husbandry and many others.
Among the priority areas of cooperation was the drafting of a new full-scale Cooperation Program until 2030. It should provide for projects and activities in the field of food security, fundamental scientific research, digitalization of agriculture, assistance in solving the environmental problems of the Aral Sea region and other areas.
They also discussed the preparation for the upcoming High-Level International Conference under the auspices of FAO in Samarkand.
