On June 8, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni at the Chigi Palace in Rome, the presidential press service said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that Italy was Uzbekistan’s important and reliable partner in Europe, with in recent years, cooperation with Italy intensified in the security, economy, energy, cultural and humanitarian areas.

He voiced confidence that this visit would be the beginning of an important stage in the further development of the Uzbek-Italian multifaceted ties.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Georgia Meloni explored the ways for deepening relations in priority areas and noted that the main goal is to expand trade and economic cooperation.

The parties noted the importance of stimulating direct contacts between the provinces of the two countries.

They agreed that there was a great potential for developing cooperation in the culture, education and tourism spheres.

Georgia Meloni supported Uzbekistan’s efforts to strengthen the atmosphere of partnership, good neighborliness and trust in Central Asia. She also advocated the development of the Italy-Central Asia cooperation format.

Regarding the situation in Afghanistan, the parties emphasized the importance of continuing humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people, including using the capabilities of the logistics center in Termez.
