Kazakhstan will prepare its infrastructure for the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan by the autumn-winter season of 2023, announced the Kazakh Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev at a meeting on the gas industry in the lower house of parliament on Friday.

According to him, negotiations between Uzbekistan and Gazprom on the volume and price of gas are still ongoing. The Kazakh authorities have already voiced readiness to allow the transit.

“And as soon as these negotiations are complete, we will be ready to provide our infrastructure. Moreover, we are talking about the fact that this infrastructure will be ready in the autumn-winter season of next year. We are in favor of this transit and in terms of obtaining funds for transit, and in general, increasing the reliability of energy supply in the Central Asian region,” he said.

On the sidelines of the government meeting on May 16, he said that negotiations on the possibility of transiting Russian gas to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan are going "in a fairly constructive manner."

Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov noted that the discussion of commercial terms for Russian gas supplies would begin only once the technical issues were resolved. On May 30, he again met with the CEO of Gazprom, Alexei Miller, in St. Petersburg to discuss Russian gas supplies.
