Phased introduction of a early warning national system for strong earthquakes will begin in Uzbekistan as of December 1. According to the Ministry of Justice, this is provided for by a presidential decree on improving the system for ensuring seismic safety of the population and territory of Uzbekistan.
As part of the system, it is planned to launch a mobile app “Strong Earthquake Alerts”, linked with the online monitoring system for seismic activity in Uzbekistan and neighboring countries. It should, within a few seconds after recording of a 5 magnitude earthquake, will send users a message about it.
The new document also plans to introduce rules of action during earthquakes into the curricula of schools and secondary specialized and vocational education from 2023.
