Schoolgirl, 12, died after being hit by Chevrolet Matiz when she was crossing the road at an unregulated pedestrian crossing on Lutfi street in Tashkent on Tuesday evening.

According to the press service of the Tashkent city police department, the girl sustained serious bodily injuries and died on the way to the hospital.

The car was driven by M.A., 31. The photograph, released by the police department, shows a severe dent on the hood of the Matiz and a broken windshield.

The Investigation Department under the Department launched a criminal case under Violation of traffic safety rules that resulted in the death of a person charge.

Pedestrian collisions at uncontrolled crossings in Uzbekistan occur regularly, but authorities often decide to install traffic lights on them only after fatalities.

For example, recently traffic lights were installed after a car hit a pedestrian at the crossing on Makhtumkuli Street and several fatal collisions on Shota Rustaveli Street near the Pushkin monument.
