Every year on May 18, more than 150 countries around the world mark the International Museum Day. The decision to celebrate this day was made in 1977 at a regular meeting of the International Council of Museums.
The State Museum of Applied Arts and Handicraft History of Uzbekistan will organize an open day from 9:00 to 18:00.
The State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan in honor of the holiday will hold a number of events:
May 18
- 12:00 – Opening ceremony of the new exposition “The Art of Uzbekistan in the XX—XXI centuries. Painting and sculpture”;
- 15:30 - Exhibition "Woven splendor from Raphael to Picasso";
- 16:00 - Open Air Fest concert;
- 17:00 - opening of the exhibition of Bakhodir Jalal "Line to Eternity".
May 19
- 17:00 - Opening ceremony of the exhibition "Art of Perceiving Art";
- 19:00 - Ceremony of the program "Night at the Museum".
May 24
- 16:00 - Meeting with the People's Artist of Uzbekistan Bahodir Jalal.
May 25
- 15:00 - Lecture by art historian Elmira Akhmedova "Art of Uzbekistan: in the flow of time."
May 26
- 15:00 - Creative meeting with artists - participants of the project "The Art of Art Perception".
In the Kamoliddin Behzod Museum of Oriental Miniature Art, workshops on miniature, calligraphy, abra and hand-made silk paper production will be held from 10:00 to 16:00, the administration told Gazeta.uz.
The State Museum of Nature will host an event dedicated to the work and history of the museum.
According to the press service of the city administration, events are planned in other museums of the country - in the Museum of Arts named after I. V. Savitsky, in the Berdakh Museum of the History of Karakalpak Literature and in the State Museum of History and Culture of Karakalpakstan. The latter will host Open Air Fest and Night at the Museum on May 19.
Entrance to all state museums on May 18 will be free.
