Extraordinary meeting of the executive council of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan took place today on May 11. The meeting reviewed the nominating a presidential candidate at the upcoming congress of the party.
According to UzA, the Green Party plans to nominate its leader Abdushukur Khamzaev as a candidate for the presidential elections.
Abdushukur Khamzaev is a former deputy chief of the State Forestry Committee and ex-director of the Research Institute of Forestry. He was elected chairman of the party in December last year.
Early presidential elections in Uzbekistan are scheduled for July 9. Parties must officially nominate candidates between May 17 and June 1. The Central Electoral Commission must complete their registration on June 6.
Only political parties have the right to nominate a presidential candidate. There are five parties registered in Uzbekistan.
