“Uzbekistan is a secular state, and it will remain such,” President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a meeting with the heads of the chambers of parliament, parties, the judiciary and the executive on Monday.

“This is the desire and firm choice of our people, voiced through a referendum,” he said. Earlier, we wrote that the president called the status of Uzbekistan as a sovereign, democratic, legal, social and secular state enshrined in the article 1 of the new Constitution as “five foundations” that determine the path of development and the future of the country, which “will never change.”

“The policy course of ensuring the freedom of conscience of every citizen, regardless of his nationality, language, religion and social origin, creating all the necessary conditions for the free activity of all religious confessions, ensuring the peaceful coexistence of nationalities and confessions in our country will continue in the future,” he said.

“In our society, any radicalization, the use of religion for political purposes will never be allowed,” he stressed.

“From the very first day I started working as president, I always repeat: “We came to serve our people,” “We must meet the needs of the people,” the head of state said.

“When we started the reforms, we faced many challenges and trials that we could not even imagine. We find a solution for them together with our people, solving every problem on the spot,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

“The essence of the updated Constitution and its main goal is also to create decent conditions for the prosperous life of our people,” he said.

“No matter how difficult the path to this goal is, we will find all the necessary means, if necessary, in excess, we will use all the possibilities,” the president assured.

“Our people themselves are the most just judge,” he said.
