Agreement was reached on the construction of thermal power plants in Surkhandarya and Navoi provinces in cooperation with the German Siemens. This was announced on May 2 at the Uzbekistan-Germany business forum.

The Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamahmudov, told about some details of the agreement.

"For the first time, Siemens will be participating not only as a supplier of equipment, but also as an investor. We have agreed that Siemens would build a new thermal power plant in Surkhandarya, which will be part of the chemical cluster established in Navoi, and to build wind and solar energy stations with a capacity of up to 1000 MW.

It certainly won't happen overnight. For example, if the project of the Surkhandarya thermal power plant starts this year, it will be commissioned in 2026. For 2023, we have signed a contract for Siemens turbines. These turbines will be installed in thermal plants in Bukhara and Mubarak. We have agreed to deliver and install these turbines this year and start them up by December. That is, 150-160 MW of new capacity is planned to be put into operation," Jurabek Mirzamahmudov said in an interview at the business forum in Berlin.
