The thousandth, anniversary, kidney transplantation was conducted at the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Surgery named after academician V. Vakhidov.

The operation was performed on a woman with end-stage chronic renal failure, her husband became a donor. Patients have already returned to normal life.

All stages of the operation, pre- and postoperative management of patients were mastered by the team of transplantologists of the surgery center. Today, surgeons perform two kidney transplants from a living related donor in one working day at the same time.

This means that operations are being performed at the same time in four operating theaters by four teams of surgeons: two teams work in the process of kidney sampling, two teams work directly in the process of transplantation.

The operating teams were headed by the head of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Kidney Transplantation, Professor Fazlitdin Bakhritdinov.

The introduction of the transplantation program allows increasing the volume of transplant care and improving the results of treatment of patients with terminal organ damage not only in the capital, but also in the regions and other remote areas of Uzbekistan. Kidney transplantation gives patients a chance to continue their lives with better quality.

In recent years, the number of kidney transplants performed has increased dramatically and has reached more than 300 operations per year, the center of surgery emphasized.

“We also have experience in transplantation for pediatric patients. There are some peculiarities and difficulties in pediatric transplantation, but this is the most important direction, since in the world statistics more and more children are in need of transplantation and dialysis. At the moment, we have performed about 50 successful transplantations for children of different ages,” the center of surgery noted.
