The Tashkent airport second runway reconstruction project (there are two in total), which lasted about eight months, is now complete.

Runway 08R-26L (the numbers indicate magnetic approach courses, the letters indicate the right and left runways, this runway is right) is 3,905 m in length and 60 m in width. The reconstruction was started in August last year.

“This is a very important event for the Tashkent airport, given that the runway was last reconstructed in 1996,” Rano Juraeva, the CEO of Uzbekistan Airports said.

“The runway is capable of receiving all types of aircraft. “Its flatness index is 5, which is the highest possible score. Another important indicator is strength (pavement classification number, PCN), which has increased to 69, which allows it to withstand a load of up to 285 tons,” she added.

The runway has been equipped with modern energy-saving lighting equipment and a landing system of the first category (before the reconstruction it was also the first) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This makes it possible for aircraft to land with a horizontal visibility on the runway of 800 m and a vertical visibility of 60 m, the press service of Uzbekistan Airports said.

“Annually, the transportation by air rises by about 50%. More and more different companies are flying to Uzbekistan on different types of aircraft that we have to serve. Now the airport receives an average of 140 flights per day,” she noted.

The runway reconstruction project is estimated at 120 billion soums, or US$ 10 million. The strip was designed by Development infrastructure and design. The work was carried out by the contractor OOO Dorkompleksnab Plus.

The left runway (08L-26R) of the airport was reconstructed in 2021 - it was also reinforced and equipped in line with international safety requirements. It has the second ICAO category, allowing landing with a visibility range of at least 300 m and a decision height of at least 30 m.
