Uzbek and Kyrgyz experts have commenced the restoration of the underground gas storage facility in Sokh region for its joint use, the press service of Uztransgaz said.

Earlier in February, during the visit of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Kyrgyzstan, the ministries of energy of the two countries signed a roadmap for the preparation of a feasibility study for the project to restore the Northern Sokh gas storage for its joint use.

working group of the Uzbek Ministry of Energy was formed, which on April 10 visited the Kadamjai district of Kyrgyzstan to study issues as part of the research on the project, Uztransgaz said in a statement.

Experts of the UzLITIneftgaz design institute developed terms of reference for conducting field studies of gas wells of the Northern Sokh gas storage facility and conducted their preliminary survey, the press service added.

Minister of Energy Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov said earlier that the volume of UGS facilities is 2.5-3 billion cubic meters. “Of these, 1.3 BCM gas can be used, and the rest is in the buffer zone. This means that we will be able to supply 13 million cubic meters of gas to the valley every day during the winter season,” he then said.
