Law enforcement agencies detained the deputy mayor of Izbaskan district of Andijan province in charge of investment, industry and trade, A. Karimov on Saturday, the Prosecutor General's Office said.
Reportedly, the deputy mayor, 33, was detained while receiving 5.3 million soums in his office. He allegedly promised to help a man to buy land of 0.08 ha in the protected area of the Greater Ferghana Canal through closed auctions on E-Auksion.
A criminal case was launched under Fraud using official position charge of the Criminal Code.
This crime is punishable by a fine of 300 to 400 basic settlement units, or 8.5 to 11 thousand USD, or correctional labor from 2 to 3 years or imprisonment from 5 to 8 years with deprivation of certain rights. In this case, in the case of compensation for material damage caused, punishment in the form of restriction or imprisonment shall not be applied.
