Uzbek-Chinese biotechnology cluster could be set in Syrdarya province through investments of $500 million. This was discussed at a meeting of the provincial deputies council on April 7, president’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this project among five new initiatives "aimed at improving the well-being of households in Syrdarya."

Within the cluster in Gulistan, together with leading universities in China, it is planned to set up an international educational and research university, an innovative medical clinic, the Central Asian Genomic Center and a cell therapy center for the treatment of oncological diseases.

In addition, the cluster is expected to produce modern diagnostic devices, innovative vaccines, probiotics and cancer drugs. It is planned to create educational buildings, a modern campus, laboratories and an engineering school for 10,000 students.

In addition, in the Syrdarya province, which should turn into a “province of innovation”, a regimen of special benefits will be introduced for projects in 20 areas of biopharmaceuticals, building materials, agriculture, food, electrical engineering, medicine and education:

  • reliefs from land tax, property tax, income tax, turnover tax and customs duties for up to 3 years;
  • allocation of land plots in a simplified manner, while payment by installments of up to 5 years is allowed when purchasing land and buildings;
  • doubling the limit on the interest rate that the government subsidizes.
