The opening ceremony of the Uzbek Embassy took place in the Hungarian capital Budapest on Monday, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

The event was attended by the Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Economic Development of Hungary Márton Nagy and other officials.

Bakhtiyor Saidov said that expanding cooperation with Hungary was one of the important areas of Uzbek diplomacy.

Péter Szijjártó expressed confidence that the embassy would contribute to the expanding and boosting the Uzbek-Hungarian ties.

Prior to this, the Uzbek Ambassador to Hungary was stationed in Austria.

Hungary opened an embassy in Tashkent in 2016.

At the talks between the Foreign Ministers of Uzbekistan and Hungary, which preceded the opening of the embassy, the parties discussed the ways to advance bilateral ties in various areasields.

At the meeting was signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation in the field of cultural heritage.
