Andijan International Airport will temporarily closed from April 1 due to the reconstruction of the airfield complex, Uzbekistan Airports said.
“As part of the reconstruction, it is planned to modernize the runway, taxiways and aircraft parking areas, as well as install a new system of lighting, meteorological and radio navigation landing systems,” the company added.
On March 24, a message appeared in the aeronautical information system (NOTAM) that Andijan airport would be closed for reconstruction until the end of 2023.
In April 2022, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with a project to build a single international airport for the three provinces of the Fergana Valley.
In June of the same year, the CEO of Uzbekistan Airports, Rano Juraeva spoke about two scenarios for the development of airports in the Fergana Valley: the reconstruction and construction of new airports in their current locations and the construction of a single air harbor for three provinces.
