The Judicial Collegium for Criminal Cases of the Court of the Republic of Karakalpakstan is considering a criminal case against Amanbay Sagidullayev and Nietbay Urazbaev in an open trial, announced the head of the press service of the Supreme Court Aziz Abidov.

According to him, the Judicial Collegium in an open trial is considering the case against Amanbay Sagidullayev, 56, who is accused of committing crimes under the following articles of the Criminal Code:

  •          Art. 104 through Art. 28 (Complicity in intentional grievous bodily harm caused to two or more persons);
  •          Art. 158 (Encroachments on the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan);
  •          Art. 159 (Encroachments on the constitutional order of the Republic of Uzbekistan);
  •          Art. 244 (Riots);
  •          Art. 244-1 (Production, storage, distribution or demonstration of materials containing a threat to public safety and public order).

While, Nietbai Urazbaev, 54, is accused of committing crimes under articles 28,104, 159, 244 and 244-1 of the Criminal Code.

On the basis of Article 410 (participation of the defendant in the trial) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as due to the defendants being outside the Republic of Uzbekistan and the impossibility of bringing them to court, the trial in this criminal case takes place without the participation of Sagidullayev and Urazbaev. Detailed information will be provided at the conclusion of the trial.

Amanbay Sagidullayev is the leader of the Alga Karakalpakstan separatist movement. According to open sources, he currently lives in Norway. He often sits on social networks and calls on Uzbeks to mass riots.

During the July events, he actively supported the rioters through social networks.

Law enforcement agencies put him on the wanted list.

In October 2022, Mediazona reported that the Uzbek authorities put the chairman of the Karakalpak ethno-cultural association of the Mangistau province of Kazakhstan "Allayar Zholy" Nietbai Urazbaev on the international wanted list in the case of an encroachment on the constitutional order of the country. Urazbaev is a Kazakh national who works as team leader for a company in Aktau.
