Shavkat Umurzakov has been approved as acting mayor of Tashkent city, UzA reported. Since June 2018, he has served as the Chairman of UzAutoSanoat.

While, Shavkat Umurzakov, 43, had been in charge of the Department for Combating Organized Crime and Corruption of the General Prosecutor's Office in 2013-2018, and from June 2011 to September 2013 - the Department for Combating Economic Crime and Corruption of the Prosecutor's Office of the Tashkent province.

On January 16, Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the sacking of Jahongir Artykhodzhaev, who had been in charge of the capital's administration since April 2018. “I fired him. For idle words, false reports, for not going down to the people,” he said then.

Since then, Bakhtiyor Rakhmonov, former first deputy mayor, has headed the capital's administration as caretaker mayor.
