On March 22, a delegation led by the President’s Special Envoy for foreign policy course Abdulaziz Kamilov visited Afghanistan. Earlier the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan reported that officials of Uzbekistan and Afghanistan discussed border protection, security and development of bilateral ties.

According to the Foreign Ministry, in Kabul, the Uzbek delegation held meetings with acting deputy PM Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, and the acting Foreign Minister Amirhan Muttaqi, and the acting Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob Mujahid, other members of the caretaker government and representatives of economic structures.

During the talks, the parties discussed the ways to expand bilateral trade and economic ties, to boost volume of transportation of various goods, including transit through the territory of Afghanistan,.

They considered separately implementing important transport and energy projects, in particular, the construction of the Termez-Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar railway and the laying of the Surkhan-Puli Khumri power line.

The parties pointed to the need for an early transition to the practical phase of work and reaffirmed their readiness to continue a constructive dialogue on all issues on the bilateral agenda and the respect and protect women's rights, ensure girls' access to education in Afghanistan, as well as the training of Afghan personnel at the educational center in Termez city.

They also focused on cooperation in the water and energy sector.

"The talks were held in the spirit of mutual understanding and the desire of the parties to further expand bilateral cooperation," the Foreign Ministry concluded.
