Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov hosted the Mongolian Foreign Minister Batmunkh Battsetseg in Tashkent on Wednesday. The counterparts in particular the opening of the embassy of Mongolia in Tashkent this year. Now Mongolia has an honorary consulate in Tashkent.
“We welcome the decision to open the Embassy of Mongolia in Uzbekistan. In recent years, the bilateral ties have shown high positive trend in all areas without exception,” Bakhtiyor Saidov wrote in his Telegram channel.
Earlier this year, Batmunkh Battsetseg reported that Mongolia viewed Uzbekistan as an important country for expanding its economic and trade presence in the Central Asian region.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the partie discussed the ways to expand the legal framework for cooperation, boosting the two-way trade and implementing joint cooperation projects.
An agreement was reached to study the issues of creating an Uzbek-Mongolian working group on cooperation in the field of agriculture, as well as setting up of a Business Council.
As part of the visit, which began on March 7 and will last until March 10, Batmunkh Battsetseg and other Mongolian officials are also scheduled to hold meetings at the ministries of agriculture, investment, industry and trade, transport, and the Cabinet of Ministers.
This is the first visit to Uzbekistan by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1992, according to the website of the Mongolian Foreign Ministry. The President of Mongolia visited Uzbekistan in autumn to attend the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Last year, Mongolia introduced a 30-day visa-free regime for Uzbeks.
