Tashkent will host the 7th international jazz festival from April 25 to May 13, the Culture and Art Development Fund of Uzbekistan said. The festival is being organized under the auspices of the UNESCO office with the assistance of the embassies of a number of countries. Uzbekistan has been participating in the global jazz celebration since 2015.
“The history of jazz is inextricably linked with the battle for democracy, civil rights and human dignity. Jazz gave impetus to the fight against discrimination and racism. UNESCO believes in the power of jazz to promote peace, dialogue and mutual understanding, which is why in November 2011 the UNESCO General Conference declared April 30 as International Jazz Day.
As part of the festival on April 30, American singer China Moses and the Swiss band Moonlight Gang, Gregory Porter, Igor Butman and his orchestra, Til Brenner, Al Di Meola, Take 6, De-Phazz and other famous performers will perform.
At the invitation of the embassies, performers from the USA, Great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Romania, Ukraine, France and Switzerland will represent their countries at the festival. Uzbekistan will be represented by the Jazzirama group.
“Jazz is something more than music or purely aesthetic emotions. This is a message of freedom and creativity. Jazz carries the values of dignity, respect and hope. Therefore, jazz is a universal music,” said UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.
During the jazz festival in Tashkent, in addition to concerts, master classes and creative meetings will be held.
