Cooperation agreement with a consortium of Chinese companies Huaneng Renewables Corporation and Poly Technologies for solar PV plants with a total capacity of 2,000 MW in Jizzakh and Tashkent provinces was inked on February 20, the Ministry of Energy.
The signing took place during the visit of a delegation led by the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan to China.
As part of the agreement, the consortium will reportedly make direct investments in Uzbekistan in the amount of $2 billion, the report said.
The first plants are scheduled to be commissioned before 2024, and in 2024 - at full capacity.
As a result, 5 billion kWh of electricity will be generated per year, as a result of which 1.3 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be saved, the Energy Ministry said.
Earlier, on February 15, a memorandum of understanding was also signed with the Chinese company China Energy Engineering Corporation for the construction of solar photovoltaic power plants with a total capacity of 2,000 MW in Kashkadarya, Bukhara and Samarkand provinces.
Energy Minister Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov noted earlier that Chinese energy companies are involved in projects for the construction of alternative energy facilities, since they can implement the project in a short time.
