The next season of growing desert plants on the dry bottom of the sea kicked off in the former Aral Sea. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, these steps are aimed at preventing the rise of harmful salts and dust from the dry seabed.
Over the past years, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the State Committee for Forestry planted a forest of saxaul, tamarisk and other desert plants on 1,620,000 hectares in the arid part of the Aral Sea. In 2023, it is planned to carry out afforestation on another 100,000 hectares of land.
The season launch ceremony was attended by the Minister of Emergency Situations, Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of Karakalpakstan, the head of the Ecological Party and representatives of other authorities.
Landscaping of the dried bottom of the Aral Sea is to be coordinated by Tursinkhan Khudaibergenov, Advisor to the President for Sustainable Development of the Aral Sea Region.
