From January 1, 2023, the position of the Chairman of the Executive Committee/the Executive Secretary of the CIS has been transformed into to the General Secretary of the CIS.
At the Astana summit held on October 14, 2022, the CIS leaders supported the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokaev to transform the position of the Chairman of Executive Committee/ Executive Secretary of the CIS to the position of the General Secretary of the CIS from 2023.
At this Summit, the CIS heads of state decided to extend the powers of Sergey Lebedev as the head of the Commonwealth Executive Committee for another three years.
