On December 28, at the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, the Deputy Minister/chief of the negotiating group on Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO, Badriddin Abidov, met with the Permanent Representative of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Uzbekistan, Kevin Ross.
The Deputy Minister provided information on the steps taken in the process of Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO and the upcoming priorities to accelerate this process in 2023.
In particular, he indicated to the results of the activities of the members of the interdepartmental commission for work with the WTO, the negotiating group and 10 thematic working groups, as well as their coordinated and operational work in the process of preparing all the necessary documents requested by the member countries of the organization, with coordinating role of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.
The importance of working with donor countries and organizations in the framework of the implementation of technical assistance programs in the process of joining the WTO was also emphasized. Over 250 trainings and seminars have been organized with their participation over the past 3 years, studies have been conducted on the impact of joining the organization on various sectors of the economy, and other related activities have been carried out.
The IMF Resident Representative confirmed his readiness to continue providing comprehensive support to further advance the process of Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO.
