An employee of the French Embassy in Uzbekistan, Major Francis Delègue, Head of the Regional Operational Security, also responsible for Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, died in an accident in the Chimgan mountains on Saturday, a spokesman for the diplomatic mission said.
The accident occurred on May 27 while he was flying in a paraglider. As it turned out, he had been doing this sport for many years. According to the embassy official, during his flight his glider was blown by a strong wind, after which he lost control and crashed.
The embassy did not elaborate on whether there was an ongoing investigation by law enforcement agencies, or if any other versions of the incident are being examined.
