On the World AIDS Day on December 1,the Ministry of Health with reference to the Deputy Director of the Republican AIDS Center Gulifor Normuratova reported that 45,000 people in Uzbekistan were living with HIV infection as of January 1, 2022.
According to her, many patients in Uzbekistan were treated with special antiretroviral therapy. In 74% of people who received such treatment, the viral load decreased several times.
In February of this year, it was reported that 45,000 people in Uzbekistan were living with HIV infection. Of these, 55% are men and 45% are women. Of the total, 14% are the children aged under 18.
Most HIV-infected people live in Tashkent and the Tashkent province.
In November 2019, the former director of the Agency for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare under the Ministry of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Bakhrom Almatov, reported that more than 4,000 people are being diagnosed with AIDS annually in Uzbekistan.
