The Japanese government and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) will donate US$ 7.25 million for the second project to improve locust management in Central Asia, the Japanese Embassy in Uzbekistan said.

To mitigate the damage caused by locusts, Uzbekistan plans to create a system of cross-border cooperation in six countries, including Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

For locust control, Uzbekistan will be provided with funds and equipment for about US$ 600 thousand: pesticides, sprayers, vehicles, equipment to reduce damage, as well as a system for collecting information on locust location and data analysis.

By 2025, it is planned to create a monitoring system for the early detection and destruction of grasshoppers in the Central Asian region, covering five times more territory than in 2019.
