The Central Bank of Uzbekistan today set a new official exchange rate of 8,100 UZS to the US dollar, which is by 3889.65 soums higher than in the previous week (4,210.35 UZS).
"Based on the analysis of exchange rate factors for 2003-2017 and outcomes of foreign currency test sales by banks to importing enterprises, the equilibrium exchange rate is currently estimated at 8000-8150 UZS to the US dollar", the Central Bank said in a statement.
As before, the Central Bank’s rate will be set every Monday based on the average rate fixed at foreign exchange trades in the previous week and will be applied for accounting purposes, statistical and other reporting on currency transactions, as well as for calculating customs and other mandatory payments on the territory of Uzbekistan.
Interbank trading sessions of foreign currency will be held daily at UzEx, at which the exchange rate will be set based on supply and demand and published on the exchange's website.
On September 2, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed Priority Measures for Liberalizing Foreign Exchange Policy Decree allowing from September 5 to legal entities in Uzbekistan to buy foreign currency in banks without restrictions for payments under current international operations (import of goods, works and services, repatriation of profits, repayment of loans, payment of travel expenses and other transfers of non-trade nature).
The decree established that only market mechanisms will be used when setting the soum to foreign currency exchange rate.
