In the first half of 2022, Tajikistan exported more than 6.6 thousand tons of cotton to Uzbekistan worth over US$17.3 million. According to Asia-Plus, citing the Customs Service of Tajikistan, this is almost 3.3 times higher than in the same period in 2021 ($5.3 million).
The total two-way trade between the countries topped $285 million. The main export goods of Tajikistan to Uzbekistan in January-June 2022 were cotton ($17.3 million), cement ($14.1 million), electricity (12.2 million) and aluminum (10.6 million).
In terms of imports, Tajikistan mainly receives such goods as mineral and chemical fertilizers, natural gas, household appliances, clothing and footwear, carpets, silk products, tomatoes, watermelons and melons from Uzbekistan.
At the end of June of this year, the delegation of Uztekstilsanoat, as part of a working visit to Tajikistan, discussed with the heads of local authorities of Khatlon and Sughd provinces the prospects for setting a joint venture for processing cotton.
In addition, earlier an agreement was reached between the businesses of Sughd and Ferghana provinces on the creation of a spinning factory in the Asht province, cooperation between the Nassochii Khujand enterprise (Khujand Textile), Kamoli Khujandi Corporation and a South Korean company in Fergana.
