In January 2022, 3,037 cars from 12 countries were imported to Uzbekistan, the State Statistics Committee said in a report on Monday.

Compared to January last year, by 2,819 more cars were imported, or by 13.9 times more. The cost of imported cars topped 65.7 million dollars, which is 11 times more than last year.

In January, $3.1 million worth of 122 electric vehicles were also imported, of which 119 were imported from China. This is 70 more electric vehicles than in the same period last year.

The Center for Economic Research and Reform underscored that an increase in the sale and purchase of foreign cars in January by 71% compared to a year earlier.

The growth in demand for foreign cars is most likely due to the fact that on December 20, Uzauto Motors announced that it had to stop selling Nexia, Spark, Cobalt and Lacetti cars until February 1 due to interruptions in the supply of semiconductors and logistical problems in the world. The automaker intended to "focus on the production of already pre-ordered vehicles."
