Uzbekistan and Iran have agreed to develop railway transit, Miad Salihi, the general director of the Iranian Railways said on his Twitter page.

Commenting on the Uzbekistan-Iran railway transit development agreement, Miad Salihi said: "The parties have agreed to establish mutually beneficial preferential tariffs on freight transportation in 2022."

According to Salihi, “both sides agreed to expedite the movement of Uzbek railway cars in Iran, the movement of Iranian cars in Uzbekistan, the transit of goods from China and other countries through Uzbekistan and back, as well as the organization of combined cargo from Chobahor port to Uzbekistan and vice versa.”.

In order to enhance the cooperation in the field of rail transport, the governments of Iran and Uzbekistan have recently held talks on the effective use of transport and transit corridors on the Iran-Uzbekistan route, which resulted in the signing of a protocol on cooperation between Uzbek and Iranian railway companies.
